The formula
Nine ingredients, in order of weight
Every tin is made in one small batch. This is the whole list — nothing held back as a “proprietary blend.”
-
Organic beeswax
Cera albaSets the balm. It's what makes the salve firm in the tin and slow to melt on skin.
-
Shea butter
Butyrospermum parkiiThe richest emollient in the formula. Softens and conditions dry skin.
-
Fractionated coconut oil
Cocos nuciferaThins the wax just enough to spread. Absorbs faster than whole coconut oil.
-
Hemp seed oil
Cannabis sativa seed oilCold-pressed from the seed. A light carrier oil that leaves a matte finish.
-
Jojoba oil
Simmondsia chinensisClosest of the plant oils to skin's own sebum, which is why it sinks in instead of sitting on top.
-
Eucalyptus oil
Eucalyptus globulusScent, plus the clean cool feeling on application.
-
Peppermint oil
Mentha piperitaScent. Used at a low percentage so it reads fresh rather than sharp.
-
Vitamin E
TocopherolKeeps the plant oils from turning. This is the only preservative in the tin.
why a balm and not a lotion
A lotion is mostly water held together with emulsifiers, which is why it needs a preservative system and why it disappears in seconds. This salve is anhydrous — no water at all. Beeswax and butters do the structural work, and the only thing keeping it stable is vitamin E.
The trade-off is that you have to warm it between your fingers first. That extra ten seconds is the point.
Three steps
how to use it
-
Warm a small amount
Scoop a pea-sized piece with a fingertip and rub it between your hands for a few seconds. It goes from solid to oil quickly.
-
Massage into clean, dry skin
Work it in for about thirty seconds, until the matte finish appears. A little covers more than you would expect.
-
Reapply as you like
Safe to use morning and night. Wash your hands afterwards and keep it away from eyes and broken skin.
